Trump’s Executive Orders
Since taking office, Donald Trump has relied on executive orders to aggressively expand immigration enforcement in ways that amount to an abuse of executive power. These actions have targeted immigrants who are living, working, and contributing to society, including many with no criminal record, while also sweeping up U.S. citizens through racial and ethnic profiling. By expanding ICE authority and reducing accountability, enforcement now occurs in everyday spaces like neighborhoods, schools, and public areas, increasing the risk of wrongful detention, use of force, and constitutional violations.
IMMIGRATION POLICY
In response to U.S. military operations in Venezuela, Arab Americans for Progress released the following statement:
Arab Americans for Progress condemns President Trump’s unauthorized military operation in Venezuela, which included U.S. airstrikes near Caracas and the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. This action violates international law and undermines constitutional checks on executive power.
Despite the administration's attempts to frame this as a limited operation, the reality is clear: President Trump ordered a cross-border attack, removed a foreign leader, and bypassed Congress, an alarming precedent that expands executive war-making authority. This move reflects a long history of U.S. militarism in Latin America and is tied to efforts to control Venezuela’s oil reserves, worsening the country’s humanitarian crisis.
This operation fits a long pattern of U.S. militarism in Latin America and cannot be separate from the administration’s openly stated interest in controlling Venezuela’s vast oil reserves. It echoes the destructive legacy of the Monroe Doctrine and puts Venezuelan civilians, already facing economic and political crises, at even greater risk.
Meanwhile, billions are spent on foreign conflicts, including support for Israel’s assault on Gaza, while U.S. communities face rising costs, shrinking healthcare, and deepening inequality. Violence abroad and neglect at home have become policy norms.
We urge Congress to reclaim its war powers, halt unauthorized military actions, and investigate this operation. The U.S. must choose diplomacy and accountability over unilateral force.
